guppies fish

Why my guppies are dying in my aquarium?
I was 18 guppies in an aquarium, about a year. So recently we have a large bowl, and a treasure chest and a plant to put there. They were fine for a week and then began to die? Why?
Surfer Dude is a mistake. If you fancy tail guppies, you need a heater – to them. They are less vigorous than the regular Guppy So you have to imitate their natural habitat best possible way. If drinking water, heating and filter. Also decrease the number of guppies that are based on the size of your bowl. Use the ruler Gold: one inch of fish per gallon of water. Your fish could die because of water temperature. Maybe the water is dirty or there is a high accumulation of ammonia, due to overload your tank. email me if you need more help.

Monocirrhus polyacanthus South American Leaf Fish $14.99 The South American Leaf Fish is one of the best examples of camoflauge by mimicry. The flattened body, mottled coloration, and slow movements of this fish make it look like a leaf floating in the water. When a prey item like a small fish or invertebrate swims by, the Leaf Fish lunges and sucks in its meal. The Leaf Fish should not be kept with small fish like tetras, livebearers, rasboras or similar fish as these will most likely be eaten. They can usually be kept with larger peaceful fish or in a tank by themselves to spotlight their unusual behavior and appearance. Live foods like small feeder guppies, ghost shrimp or brine shrimp may be needed at first to trigger a feeding response but some Leaf Fish may be weaned onto frozen foods in time. They will not usually accept flakes or pellets. Planted aquariums or aquariums with lots of artificial foliage are best to help this fish act most natural. |

Gobioides broussonetti Dragon Fish $5.99 Dragon Fish, or Violet Gobies, are odd fish that are native to coastal brackish marine estuaries of the western Atlantic coast from the Carolinas to Brazil. In captivity, they seem to thrive the best in brackish water. They are characterized by a long, silver-violet eel-like body, with dorsal and ventral fins that extend all the way to the tail. They have tiny eyes and a large mouth in which their sharp teeth can be clearly seen. Despite their predatory appearance, Dragon Fish are not big predators. They have poor eyesight, and do little hunting. Dragon Fish often feed by scooping mouthfuls of sand or mud, swallowing edible items, and spitting out the rest. Their natural diet consists mainly of diatoms, worms, and small crustaceans. In the aquarium, they will accept live and frozen blackworms, bloodworms, brine shrimp, ghost shrimp, krill, as well as sinking pellets and occasionally, tiny guppies. Due to their poor eyesight, Dragon Fish are often slow to find food, and do not get enough to eat before other fish consume all the food. Be sure that your Dragon Fish gets plenty to eat, or it may starve to death. Dragon Fish should be kept singly unless a large group can be kept in a tank of about 100 gallons or more. In small tanks and small groups, one larger Dragon Fish will dominate the others and some may be bullied or not get enough food. Dragon Fish can be kept with most peaceful fish that are too large to swallow. |

Poecilia reticulata Assorted Fancy Guppy – Female $1.99 These female guppies are available in assorted colors only. Specific varieties of female guppies are not available. If you have a request for a certain color, please contact the Livestock Mailorder department at 877-367-4377 or livefish@thatpetplace.com. We cannot guarantee that specific colors will be available but try to fill as many requests as possible. Guppies are a popular fish for aquariums because of their bright colors and the long flowing fins of the males. While wild guppies are usually plain silver, the fancy guppies bred for the aquarium trade can be a variety of colors and combinations. Pattern and coloration can vary slightly even within a specific variety of fancy guppies due to their selective breeding. Males have long fan-shaped tails and long dorsal fins. Females are less colorful, and lack the elaborate fins but can grow slightly larger. Guppies are peaceful fish and can be kept in most community aquariums. Because of their long finnage, fish that have a tendency to nip at fins, such as barbs, would not be appropriate tankmates. Guppies do well in planted aquariums and need good water quality. They can be sensitive to changes in their environment in parameters like temperatures and pH. Guppies are omnivores and can be fed most tropical freshwater aquarium foods like flakes and very small pellets as well as frozen foods like brine shrimp, Cyclopeeze, Spirulina, mosquito larvae and similar items. Guppies are live bearing fish, and will usually reproduce frequently in the home aquarium. The adult guppies and other fish may eat the young fry, so they should be placed in a breeder trap or a nursery tank until they are larger. Guppies can be sexed by the shape of the gonopodium, the specialized anal fin just in front of the tail. Males will have a pointed, tube-like gonopodium while the gonopodium on females is typically flaired and fan-shaped. This is a Restricted item and is not covered by our Arrive Alive 5-Day Guarantee. Please visit the Guarantee Policy and Restricted Species webpages for more information. |
